How to make a pot of concrete with their own hands

An outdoor decorative vase perfectly emphasizes the composition of the architectural ensemble of public use, and can also become an integral part of the landscape design of a country house, summer cottage. Products that are widely spread in the 18-19 centuries in many countries are still popular. They can be found in parks, near buildings of the city administration, in cultural complexes, at the entrance to shopping centers, also in private gardens, adjoining plots.

Taking care of the appearance of its territory for many owners comes first. Catching improvement, the owners are faced with such a decorative element as a pot. Most often, preference is given to concrete options that do not require personal care, look no worse than stone, metal structures, but are much cheaper, you can make them with your own hands.

Features of products and their application

Flowerpots made of concrete, previously used as independent objects of small architecture, gradually began to be used for utilitarian purposes. Bowls at the same time act as a decor and serve as a container for planting different plants. Thanks to these properties, they perfectly decorate the local area, emphasize the refined taste of the owners.

Street pots intended for growing flowers should be made of materials that are neutral to atmospheric phenomena, while looking natural. These requirements are fully met by the building construction of concrete, cement mortar. Products made from this raw material are characterized by functionality. With their help, you can perform zoning of the territory, decorating private properties, and equip common areas. The great demand for vases made of concrete is caused by their features and advantages:

  • The building material does not deform under the influence of weather conditions, it is not afraid of fire.
  • The solution is very plastic, malleable, takes any shape. You can make unusual structures from it, decorate them in any style.
  • This is the budget option, creating a composition does not require large expenditures.
  • Raw materials are environmentally friendly. In the cement forms, a wide variety of plants, such as bindweed, aubretia, heliotrope, lavender or others, take root well.
  • At the time of formation, the design can be given natural patterns, apply a stamped pattern, after drying, paint, make a painting.

Shape and size

Concrete solution is characterized by its plasticity, so the vase can be given almost any shape. The main thing - the design should be combined with the general style of the site, for example:

  • English. Products have smooth, curved contours, they have no sharp and right angles.
  • Country Attributes at first glance differ in tastelessness, are made carelessly. They are made in a cylindrical shape, resemble a bucket, a barrel, a basin.
  • Mauritanian. Square models are established, less often round. Outside they are faced with Arabic mosaic.
  • Classical. Flowerpots along with a sculpture, a fountain are in the center of the composition. They are made in different variations. Standard options have a perfectly round base, with a cup-hem on the leg.

The choice of the size of the pot is influenced by a number of factors. First of all, its purpose is taken into account, depending on which all designs are divided into room, street, decorative. For the second and third options are characterized by the largest parameters.

For street constructions, the area of the plot is important. In a small courtyard, a large composition would be inappropriate to look at and, conversely, small items would be invisible over a wide area.

The shape of the vase is chosen independently, it can emphasize the general appearance of the section or stand out, attracting special attention to it. For some places ideally suited products in the form of strict geometric shapes, for others - having chopped, torn, extravagant notes. In turn, the parameters of the bowl should be proportionate and proportional to the location.

Where and how to install

Concrete bowls can be placed both in public places and in private properties. There are many options. They look great in squares and parks, near cultural institutions and gardens, parking lots, inside office space, at home, in homestead, summer cottages.

Of particular importance is the size of the bowl, it depends on its mass, mobility. These parameters affect its appearance and installation method. There are stationary and portable models. The first option is characterized by a long base in one place. Massive constructions are rather stable, sometimes they use additional fastening for fixing. The second type differs in smaller weight, dimensions. The pot is used year-round or seasonally.

You can have products at different levels relative to the floor, in a vertical, horizontal position. Given these characteristics, all models of vases are divided into the following types:

  1. Outdoor. Can be used as a fence, zoning objects, decorative elements. There are no restrictions on the installation site.
  2. Thumbs. On the stand can be installed pots, serving exclusively for decorative purposes. A vase that has less weight than objects installed on the ground. Often placed products require additional fixation.
  3. Vertical and wall. Characterized by the lowest weight. Can be installed on each other, attached to surfaces perpendicular to the ground. Good choice in the absence of large areas. Also compositions are used as barriers.
  4. Inside the buildings, window structures are used, installed on window sills, ebbs.

Required materials and tools

To create products will need architectural concrete. It differs from the usual by the presence of various mineral and inorganic additives. To prepare the mixture, you need cement, sand, crushed stone, special impurities, water. Additions play an important role, they give the concrete solution plasticity, fluidity, with their help increase or decrease the hardening time, increase resistance to temperature changes, reduce water absorption.

The composition of the binding components include various substances. For example, silicate dust and various ashes are added to the mixture to give strength, and fine-grained cement is also used. Mobility is regulated by superplasticizers. To prepare a compound that does not require vibration for shrinkage, hyperplasticizers are used.

To give the finished product a certain color, colored mineral or organic pigments are introduced into the mixture. However, dyes reduce the strength of the design. At the mixing stage, you can add marble, granite, quartz and other rocks to the composition.

Having decided on materials for work, it is necessary to prepare tools. Their list is small. This will require:

  • capacity for mixing the solution;
  • shovel, trowel, spatula;
  • mittens;
  • paints, leaves from trees, stencils in case of drawing a pattern on the surface;
  • piece of reinforcement for piercing concrete.

How to prepare a solution

For the manufacture of decorative building materials used Portland cement, consisting of cement clinker, gypsum, impurities. At the same time, a fine-grained composition is chosen, the grades are not lower than M 400. To increase the strength, reinforcing fiber is added. To prepare the mixture, we need:

  • Portland cement M 500 - 1 part;
  • quartz sand - 3 parts;
  • fine fraction rubble, stone chips - 3 parts;
  • C-3 liquid plasticizer - 0.5-0.7% by weight of dry cement;
  • fiberglass - 0.6 kg / m³;
  • pigment dye - 3%;
  • purified water - 2 parts.

Step by step process is as follows:

  1. Dry cement and sand must be passed through a sieve, then, while respecting the proportions, mix both components.
  2. Crushed marble chips, polypropylene, and coloring matter are added to the dry composition, after which everything is mixed into a homogeneous mass.
  3. A recess is formed in the middle of the resulting heap, pure water is poured into it, a plasticizer, and a solution is kneaded.

To check the quality of concrete, it is enough to squeeze the resulting mass in your hand. If water acts in this case, the mixture is diluted with sand, the liquid is mixed into the loose structure.

Manufacturing methods and materials for forms

Simple flowerpots can be made using patterns and forms. Both ready-made and hand-made models are used. With their help, mostly simple structural structures are made in the form of geometric figures. As a sample, you can use any available material:

  • buckets, barrels, basins;
  • carton boxes;
  • plastic, glass bottles;
  • wooden boards, old furniture, plywood, sheets of hardboard, chipboard;
  • cooking utensils;
  • paint cans, rags, rubber gloves, clothing;
  • toys, shoes.

To create more complex vases, in the form of sculptures, birds, animals, fairy-tale characters, you need the skills of a sculptor. In the construction of such structures in addition to the patterns in the work, used frames made of reinforcement and metal mesh. After pouring the mortar, the master, using trowels and spatulas, adjusts the dimensions. If the flowerpot has a complex structure consisting of several layers, the previous one makes special grooves for better setting. The next layer is not applied until the full drying of the previous one.

In addition to these options, you can copy the finished vase, using fiberglass to create the form. For this, the selected product is covered with fiberglass on both sides. The space between the fibers is filled with epoxy resin. After complete drying, the material is cut off. You can also make interesting templates yourself from fiberglass. However, the use of these substances will require financial investments.

Step-by-step master class

Flowerpots of concrete can be created in different ways, but the principle of operation will be about the same. It consists in the selection of templates and pouring solution into them. Difficulties may arise when creating models that require modeling skills. Consider the standard manufacturing technology vases:

  1. We prepare for operation two containers of different parameters, one must enter the other, and the distance between their walls should be at least 3 cm around the entire circumference.
  2. Knead the solution. If the product will have a complex structure, protrusions, small elements, we make it more plastic, most fluid. To create smooth surfaces, we bring the consistency to a more dense state, so that the resulting mass does not spread.
  3. Lubricate inside a large container or put polyethylene on the bottom and sides. This will allow for freezing the composition to remove the template. Smaller - we process outside.
  4. Fill part of the mixture to the bottom of a larger vessel. Depending on the size of the structure, we form the layer thickness. For small bowls, 3 cm is enough.
  5. Next, create drainage holes. To do this, you can insert metal tubes, grease-treated plastic bottle caps into the solution.
  6. Install inside a smaller container filled with rubble or sand.
  7. Fill the composition in the gap between the walls of the forms. To remove air, it is necessary to pierce the mixture with a stick or reinforcement.
  8. Level with a trowel top.
  9. We cover the preform with film and leave to dry for several days.
  10. After drying, the patterns are removed.
  11. Further we wet a concrete structure with water and again we cover with a film. This procedure must be performed several times a day for 10 days. Without these actions, the concrete will crack.
  12. After the set time has elapsed, the product can be installed on the place chosen for it, or, if necessary, it can be pre-painted or decorated.

Pot-sculpture

Flowerpot can be made in the form of different shapes. Consider an example of creating beautiful swans. For work, you need a plastic container, wire, bandage, construction mesh, trowel, trowel. The master class will look like this.

  1. We take a plastic bottle with a volume of 6 liters. Cut off the side surface. We make a hole in the cover. Metal bar with a diameter of 8 mm, a length of one meter give a characteristic shape. We insert it into the hole and fix it in the neck with broken brick and tile glue. A bundle of smaller wires leads to the bottom. Fill the bottle inside with sand to the edges, so that when applying the mixture the walls do not deform.
  2. Knead the solution. Making it thick. Pour onto film. We align it, we form the basis 4 cm thick.
  3. On top of the mixture set the plastic container. We begin to coat it with a solution. For better grip, use the grid for plaster walls.
  4. For the wings, we take two metal rectangular grids, which we place on both sides of the tank, apply a layer of mortar.
  5. We form the tail, we coat the bundle with wires.
  6. We make the neck and head. To do this, after applying the first layer on a metal bar, we wrap it with a grid, apply the next layer, cover it with a bandage from above.
  7. Dry the billet for several days.
  8. Mix plaster with water, align the entire structure. Using the skills of a sculptor, we use a spatula to imitate feathers, give a volume to the head, form a beak.
  9. At the final stage, the pot can be coated with acrylic paint and several layers of varnish.

From plastic containers

An elementary way to create a flower vase. To work will require two different in volume capacity. The solution is poured onto the bottom of a larger tare diameter and leveled. Further, drainage holes are formed in it. Filled with sand or other weight, a smaller container is placed inwards in the center. The gap between the walls is filled with a mixture. After daily drying patterns are removed. The shape of the surface of the used container will depend on the appearance of the pot. It may have a pattern in the form of stripes, bulging places.

From fabric

Models made of textile fabric look original, while making them very simple. Work will require cloth and a bucket. The process will take a little time. First, the solution is kneaded, a towel or bag is dropped into it, it is there until it is completely soaked. Then it is hung out on a bucket or basin fixed on a support. After the mixture hardens a bit, the edges of the future garden bowl are formed. They can be cut, bend.

Using a different cloth, you can get an interesting texture of the pot. The surface is smooth, rough, with mounds, relief. Concrete can be impregnated with different things, whether it's a jacket, jeans, a blanket, burlap or other products.

Unusual ideas

Flowerpots can decorate different areas, both public and private. For each location, the most appropriate view is selected. The most unusual options can be found in parks, architectural ensembles. For cottage, construction adjoining areas are made in any form. There are many ideas for creating them. For clarity, we consider several interesting models:

  • Imitation of hands. This design can be made from a pair of rubber gloves. To do this, they are enough to fill the solution and dry. After which the gloves are removed. If desired, the pot is painted.
  • Boot. From the old shoe, soaked in concrete, you can build a self-sufficient flower bed, which does not need additional decoration.
  • Burdock leaves The manufacturing process is very simple. On the street is a mound, a bump of sand. A film is laid on top of it, a sheet of burdock on it, which is coated with a solution up to 2 cm thick. After that it is covered with polyethylene until it is completely dry. A few days later, the source can be removed, paint the bowl in green.
  • Basket. The recipe is elementary. As a frame can be used woven product itself. It is enough to soak it with cement mixture and paint it with paint. This pot looks tender.
  • Flower. It is made of lace fabric impregnated in a concrete composition. During drying, petals are formed from a rag. After the bowl is painted.

Decorative design

Some vases do not require finishing, others will not do without additional decoration. Bowl decoration is a creative process. Dressing is done in different ways. For example, the product can be painted, sprinkled with multi-fractional sand to roughen the surface, make inclusions from the shells.

The flowerpot can be painted white, then it will look great near a fountain or a statue. A bowl painted in golden color is generally suitable for many styles. A good solution for the design can be broken glass, dishes, mosaic. It is interesting to look at the surface with the extruded texture of natural leaves.

Conclusion

The flowerpot from concrete will become magnificent decoration of a house adjoining site. There are many options for purchased models, even more can be done with your own hands. Concrete products have many positive qualities, do not require constant care. They can be used in a composition with other objects, to make an accent of the garden interior.
