Interior paintings in loft style

Mankind invented to decorate a home with paintings many years ago. Transmitting visual images, thoughts, and emotions onto the canvas with the help of paints and brushes began literally at the beginning of the last millennium, while drawings on the walls with the help of improvised tools were made by cavemen.

In the modern world, the diversity of graphics, painting, arts and crafts, allows you to choose the right image, a whole series of them for any room. Pictures for the interior in the loft style have many interesting features that favorably emphasize the unique design.

Features, style features on the canvas

Loft appeared in the 40s of the twentieth century in America, when, due to the sharp rise in prices for rental of industrial premises, many owners of factories and plants were forced to move production out of town. Artisans, musicians, actors, other people of art began to settle the freed workshops, hangars, and attic houses, equipping their workshops and studios there. The cost of renting a part of such a building was slightly lower than the price of a well-equipped dwelling of such a size, high ceilings, panoramic windows, plenty of light were a nice addition. By the mid-1950s and 1960s, such housing acquired the status of an elite one. Now there are enough wealthy people living in these rooms, luxury offices, night rock clubs are being equipped.

Pictures of this era did not claim to create a radically new style of painting or graphics, but most clearly reflected the surrounding reality, the attitude of various artists to it. The overwhelming majority of canvases are characterized by coldness of paints, severity of lines, the absence of unnecessary details. Many of them also neatly fit into a minimalist interior. It is important that what is depicted in the picture does not create dissonance with objects located in the interior itself, is not “superfluous” here.

Other features of the design of paintings in the loft style:

  • colors are predominantly light, cold, but separate bright compositions are allowed as single contrasts;
  • for a black-and-white interior, a portrait in red-brown tones is suitable, and gray-beige abstractions will organically fit into the surroundings of the walls of red brick, refreshing it;
  • pictures should be in harmony with other loft décor - oak ceiling beams, shiny pipes, numerous wires, concrete walls, panoramic mirrors in simple frames;
  • minimalism in the design - the less on the canvas lines, colors, details, the more primitive the image, the better, detailed pictures of realist artists are completely out of place.

The location of each element of the interior should be carefully planned out - everything superfluous should be immediately removed.

Options canvases

Pictures for the loft interior are made on almost any material:

  • on traditional linen canvas;
  • roughly processed or completely smooth board;
  • any fabric stretched on the frame;
  • on a clear, frosted glass;
  • plain or photo paper;
  • on the remnants of wallpaper;
  • on primed cardboard, fiberboard, chipboard.

Many variations of paintings are easy to do with your own hands, even without being an artist. Collages from pieces of glossy magazines, children's drawings, decorated in a homemade frame, abstractions from threads and nails stuffed along a specific contour, colored stamps and macrophotoglly decorate the interior in a loft style.

Selection of paintings

Art canvases are selected depending on the taste preferences of the owners of the house, apartment, and set the mood for the whole room, being periodically updated, replaced by others. When choosing interior paintings in size, one should take into account the living space - not everyone can boast hundreds of square meters, ceilings, like in a palace. The smaller the dwelling to be decorated, the smaller the decor objects are placed in it, but very tiny pictures do not look very appropriate.

There are no overly strict rules here, but it is preferable that the paintings create a bright contrast with the surrounding space. Since the main colors of the interior in the loft style are white, gray, brick brown, it is easy to place a huge variety of art canvases, almost any posters on their background. The main thing is not to overload the interior with unnecessary details, especially small, not too expressive.

Retro, vintage, baroque - pictures of these styles look very shocking in standard "post-Soviet" interiors. Nevertheless, the individual elements in the design of loft paintings will fall quite in place. Three-dimensional paintings of iron parts, remnants of motorcycles, pipelines, alarm clocks are often very advantageously played up, especially in rooms of sufficient area.

Portraits

Most often these are reproductions of famous artists of the middle of the last century, such as:

  • Kazimir Malevich;
  • Mark Shagal;
  • Pablo Picasso;
  • Gustav Klimt;
  • Vincent Van Gogh;
  • Frida Kahlo;
  • Salvador Dali;
  • Zinaida Serebryakova;
  • Paul Gauguin.

Many portraits created by modern hyper-realists or amateur artists will also fall into the subject. It can be widescreen images of the face or parts of it, half-length portraits or in full growth, including group ones. Suitable photos of households and just some beautiful people in the framework.

Graphics

Of the graphics, including pictures fit the following motifs:

  • modern metropolis in gray-blue tones;
  • black and white contours of trees, silhouettes of people, animals, birds;
  • contrasting geometric shapes, chess, stripes, zigzags;
  • letters, numbers, inscriptions, slogans;
  • pointers, logos within;
  • images of cartoon characters;
  • fragments of safety instructions with pictures;
  • Soviet propaganda posters;
  • pin-up photos;
  • widescreen multiplication table, black and white stand for eye examinations;
  • the work of artists Robert Banksy and Andy Warhol.

Large bright posters depicting famous rock musicians, pop stars, politicians will be very appropriate. Silk-screen printing, screen printing will complement the interior in an original way.

Abstraction

It is easy to draw a colorful or black-and-white simplest abstraction on your own simply by choosing colors that you like. This may be an uneven gradient transition from one bright color scheme to another, a jumble of cubes, balls, curls, blurry faces overlapping each other. Under the concept of abstraction in the interior, one way or another, some pictures of famous cubists, Fauvists,

From the reproductions of paintings artists fit the following:

  • "Black Square" by K. Malevich;
  • "Yellow-red-blue" V. Kandinsky;
  • "Fiery Evening" P. Klee;
  • "Painting" H. Miro;
  • "Harlequin with a guitar" J. Braque;
  • "The Island" D. Ismailov;
  • "Numbers in love" D. Ball.

Pictures, in all colors in detail depicting working mechanisms, various textures, space scenes, also look good.

Modular pictures

Segmented or modular pictures every day everyone is gaining popularity. They consist of several parts of the same or different size, shape, representing diptychs, triptychs or polyptychs. To create them, any image is split into several separate fragments. The parts on the wall are mounted at an equal distance from each other or slightly chaotic, but the image must still be guessed.

Diptychs and triptychs imitating rusty metal sheets are very popular.

Image cards

A modern or ancient geographical map of the world will decorate the central part of the wall. The card is printed from an old book or the Internet using a laser printer, attached to the wall on a double-sided tape, or inserted into the frame. It looks interesting map, where the texture of the continents, islands, made as if made of brick. Modular, abstract maps of the world, individual countries, continents, the lands of "Middle-earth" or the "Seven Kingdoms", bright, slightly battered "antique" fit perfectly into the industrial interior.

The star chart is also a good solution. It is performed on a solid canvas, from separate modules, in the form of two separate hemispheres - the southern and northern sky.

Wooden paintings

Paintings on wood are made by decoupage, string art, burning out, drawing with pencils and paints, UV printing. Such images do not require frames, and the quality of wood does not necessarily have to be good. The canvas, whipped up in a hurry from boards from old euro pallets, will look even more organic than a well-polished fragment of an array.

Volumetric carved panels, painted by hand, with the image of industrial, space scenes, also look appropriate. Modular pictures with carved ornaments will create a harmonious ensemble with wooden furniture. They can also be aged slightly artificially.

The image on the wooden surface of the map of the world, for full compliance with the interior, is made "antiqued" - pale, with missing fragments, on a cracked canvas eaten by the bugs.

Paintings for the kitchen

In the kitchen, one bright canvas, a whole series of pictures made dining area. They are located above the dining table on the wall, hanging shelves. If such a complex element as a ventilation box is present in the kitchen room, what will be in the order of things for the loft style, one or two paintings decorate it too. It can be images of vegetables, fruits, bouquets, various vytynanki, pasted on the canvas or board.

Empty frames, contrasting with the walls, can also be an independent element of the decor. Alternatively, insert blank sheets of paper into them or stretch a shiny contrast fabric.

For the interior of the living room

In the interior of the living room are most appropriate large canvases. A colorful diptych will be a bright frame for a flat-screen TV, and a series of small paintings will decorate a mantelpiece. Around the sofa you can hang colorful photos, pictures in the form of an oval, rectangle, abstract shape.

All images are placed at the level of the eyes of a person standing or sitting - the middle of the work is then located at a height of about one and a half meters. If they are hung in a row, then align with the top or bottom edge. Large canvases are illuminated with individual lamps, LED strip.

Huge floor paintings will perfectly decorate the interior, but they should be placed so that it is convenient to look from a distance equal to at least one diagonal of the canvas - for this the room should not be too close to stand not in the "butt" against the wall. When floor structures are not fixed, their safe placement should also be considered. If possible, everything that should not be overly mobile is strengthened with the help of specialists.

Loft design often includes a fireplace. Most often, he is "fake", but some lovers equip quite capable. The chimney shelf in most of the interiors is quite roomy - black and white photos of the family are placed within the frames, as well as photos of recent years from the best resorts in the world.

If there are mirrors in the room, it is necessary to avoid multiple reflection of the paintings in them - this leads to a huge decrease in space.

The choice of paintings in the bedroom

It is not advisable to place many paintings in the bedroom, especially in aggressive colors - red-green, yellow-purple, black-orange, preferring pastel shades, monochrome compositions, and sepia.

A large canvas is placed above the headboard. If this is a bed of the newlyweds, the subject of the picture should relate to love - colorful hearts, verbal confessions in different languages, graphic images of a pair of swans, lovebirds.

The bedroom is often a dressing room - a small room, a niche behind the partition. This screen also usually has its own pattern, combined with the general background, but the pictures on the outside also have contrasting patterns.

It is advisable to place the paintings in places inaccessible to the sun, otherwise they have a chance to burn out too quickly.

For the nursery

Children's room in the loft style, in terms of the choice of paintings, gives a huge scope for creativity. Picture decor here can be made not only beautiful, but also functional. A realistic, detailed map of the world, posters with letters and syllables, for teaching kids, a multiplication table or road signs will be appropriate here. The brightest children's drawings, panels of cones and daisies are inserted into a frame, placed on a shelf, and collages from pieces of glossy magazines - on the back of a bunk bed. The interior can be supplemented with the silhouettes of the heroes of favorite cartoons or large black and white photos of the children themselves.

The location of the paintings

Placing pictures, posters, photo collages can be anywhere, it is important that they do not clutter up the interior, interfering with normal movement. The most convenient places for this purpose:

  • shelves - fit any: wall, in cabinets, shelves, above the fireplace. They will accommodate not too large images within. Placement of the whole conceptual series is possible;
  • walls - in any rooms, corridors, above the stairs;
  • the ceiling - a widescreen image of a starry sky or any subtle abstraction is placed here;
  • ledges, niches - canvases within the framework are simply placed there or mounted on the wall;
  • floor - huge images in heavy frames are placed on the floor, in a position leaning against the wall.

It is not recommended to place them where there is a probability to touch and drop, for example, in the hallway, nursery.

Conclusion

Any house, city apartment, decorated with at least a few paintings, looks very comfortable, which is especially important in spacious loft-terrier rooms. Abstract, pictorial, graphic canvases, if properly selected, create a unique charm, giving the design a finished look.

It is also important to comply with the intended color scheme. Selecting colors for rooms with windows facing north or north-west, you should choose the warmest, most light colors. When it comes to windows to the south, southeast, cold, light or moderately dark colors that do not violate the overall harmony of the interior are most acceptable.
