We make out the dining area in the kitchen

Under the home hearth mean not only a burning fireplace and a cozy bed, but also the presence of a special place for a comfortable meal. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is not just a joint meal for the sake of drowning hunger, but also another way to unite with your family, to spend time together. The old folk wisdom says that the beauty of the hut is not only in the corners, but also in the pies. Fragrant dishes on a beautifully served large table, behind which are all the family members and guests, a pleasant atmosphere, soft lighting, leisurely conversation - that's what a person really needs to relax. Numerous traditions are connected with the dining room in strong families that bring people together. The design of the dining area is created not only with an eye on the tastes of apartment owners, but also taking into account the special psychological techniques of visualization that can affect the appetite and mood of those who eat. How beautifully and competently to issue this special part of the house, and we will talk in this article further.

The location of the dining area

Traditionally, the dining area is located in the kitchen next to the cooking area. Unfortunately, the housing problem from the Bulgakov times did not find its resolution, and most of the country is forced to huddle in cramped “boxes”, where there is simply no way to allocate a separate room for the dining room. If the kitchen is very tiny, then the dining area is carried out beyond its borders into a more spacious room or even onto a balcony or loggia. The latter option is considered non-standard, since the “round table” in the additional room cannot be delivered. We'll have to be content with a linear layout, like in a cafe, when they sit down at a long tabletop-sill, and the chairs are placed in one row. In the complex combined options, the dining area can act as an integral part of a large studio that accommodates a hall (hallway), a living room and a kitchen. If the decorator has a spacious cottage or a country house, a summer house, then the dining area finds its place in one of the free rooms.

Do not recommend having a dining room far from the kitchen. The process of transferring plates with dishes to the table and dirty dishes back to the sink will take too much time, and this is not very convenient and practical.

On the kitchen

The method of location of the dining area in the kitchen depends on the size of the latter. The island layout is considered ideal. In this case, the table and chairs are equally spaced from the kitchen unit and the walls. Households will be convenient to approach any place and there is no feeling of "cramped". If the kitchen is small, then the dining area is located in the corner, close to the walls. To increase the number of "seats", you can install a static soft sofa (corner). If the family is small, then two or three chairs around the table will suffice. When placing the dining area in the kitchen, avoid using a lot of textiles. It absorbs odors quickly and requires frequent washing.

In very sad cases, when the owners seriously think about what to choose: a refrigerator or a stove, since both units simply do not fit in cramped kitchen conditions, it is recommended to turn to multifunctional furniture. A folding table and "garden" chairs will be easily assembled and safely hidden in a decorative niche or pantry.

In the living room

Dining combined with the living room is becoming more common. The hall is the largest room in the apartment. Its area allows you to fit not only the main functional area for recreation, but also to allocate a place for a table with chairs. As for the location of the dining area, then its placement will be optimal close to the doorway. Trays with food will not have to be carried across the entire room; accordingly, less crumbs and debris will accumulate in the recreation area. You can carry out zoning in fact (furniture, arches) or conditionally (color, light, different surface textures of the finish). Since the dining room is a rather “dirty” zone that requires systematic cleaning, it is certainly better to separate it with a real “barrier”. If the living room is not as large as we would like, then use “air” partitions (screens, curtains, furniture low or with through-shelves).

In a separate room

Separate dining room, perhaps, became a dream number 2 for each hostess. In the first place is a comfortable kitchen, where there is enough space for culinary maneuvers. A separate dining area allows you to set a large table in the center of the room, behind which whole companies will gather. Also here you can place a bar counter, additional furniture for holding receptions or relaxing after a hearty dinner. In a separate room and the interior can be unique, without regard to the design of adjacent areas. Unfortunately, the opportunity to equip such a dining room usually appears only from the owners of private houses. In apartments for the whole room for meals there is usually no place.

Furnishings

Furniture set will be the center of any dining area. If the dining room is located in the combined room, then when choosing its furnishings, they are guided by the stylistic decision of the adjacent sites. For example, a plastic table cannot be combined with an expensive classic kitchen set. This is a “moveton”, but any furniture must be not only beautiful, but also comfortable.

Choosing a dinner table

On average, the area for one person at a table is 60 cm wide. This is enough so that the neighbors do not push each other with their elbows to the sides while eating. If one of the households has non-standard sizes, then this site should be increased. Thus, before buying a table, count the number of people who will eat every day for him, and multiply it by 60 cm around the perimeter for each. Do not forget to add a "reserve" for a couple of guests and remove the useless area at the corners. Countertops can have a different shape: square, rectangular, oval, round. Creative models can have non-standard outlines. From the point of view of psychology, sharp corners should be avoided. Even if a square table was chosen, let its edges be rounded. This “softness” of the environment is conducive to pleasant communication and sweeps away internal psychological barriers at the subconscious level. The legs of the table can be placed in the corners in the amount of four pieces, in the center in the form of a “pillar” or form two end supports at the edges. The central location is typical for small tables. Classic options have four legs. By type of materials, preference is given to:

  • Solid wood. It is durable, has a rich gamut of natural shades and original drawings. In the elite interiors use valuable breeds, which cost a tidy sum.
  • Metal. Differs in durability and resistance to mechanical damage, but organically merges only into modern "high-tech" styles.
  • Glass. It can be transparent or matte, with an etched pattern. The material is durable, as for the manufacture of furniture using tempered glass, which with a strong blow just decorate the cobweb cracks, and does not crumble into dangerous fragments.
  • Acrylic, conglomerate, natural stone. Materials are considered universal and are suitable for both classic and modern styles.
  • Plastic. Budget option for low-cost interiors. Ideal as a temporary solution.

Do not recommend to buy a table even before creating a design project for a dining area. Although this element is the central, main part of the furniture group, it must correspond to the general style and be selected for it, and not vice versa.

Selection of chairs

Chairs should be combined with the table, but this does not mean that they will necessarily come from one set. Recently it has become fashionable to select these details of furnishing separately. Do not be mistaken that any chair that comes along will suit your table. In order not to miss, and the combination looked organic, focus on the form. If the table is square, then the chairs should be the same. The rounded edges must also be repeated in each element of the assembly kit. It is advisable to choose a table and chairs from the same material. An exception can only be win-win combinations:

  • Metal and wood. A classic combination that is hard to spoil.
  • Stone and wood. An expensive and luxurious option that fits the loft and chalet.
  • Glass and metal. Original modern solution.

Also important is the presence or absence of upholstery, armrests and even backs. Stools of course are rarely associated with a comfortable meal. But whether upholstery and armrests are needed is a matter of convenience.

Other furniture and dining room accessories

In the dining area in addition to the main set (table and chairs) can be additional elements. These include large (shelving, cupboard, cupboards) and small (shelves, stands, baskets) furniture. It has for practical reasons, as additional storage space in some apartments is worth its weight in gold. But with the right approach, a piece of furniture can turn into a stylish decoration of a dining room. The buffet is decorated with painted sets, plates on stands, sets of glasses. However, do not overdo it and turn it into a sideboard, which was a mandatory element of the Soviet living rooms. Bedside tables and chest of drawers are decorated with photographs or themed paintings with images of fruits, vegetables and other food. For the mood they put vases with freshly cut flowers. Walls are pasted over with wallpaper murals depicting romantic landscapes or still lifes. Modular pictures of seasonings, coffee beans, cereals and other "loose" culinary attributes are suitable for modern styles.

An original solution would be to place a large slate with crayons, like in a cafe. On it, you can record wishes for relatives or notify your family about the menu for today.

Lighting

With the lighting of the dining area everything is pretty simple. If the room is small, then a ceiling chandelier is hung over a small table. She is necessary even in cases where her neighbor is already located above the culinary zone in the combined room. Sometimes the lack of light is compensated for using wall sconces or high lamps on the floor. However, local lighting will not be able to completely replace the main one, so it is better to stay on an individual chandelier intended only for the dining area. If the table is long, then place a group of lighting devices in a row.

Color selection

Warm shades should prevail in the color palette of the dining area. Studies have shown that they stimulate a good appetite and elevate mood. You can decorate the dining room according to the principle of similarity or contrast. As the main tone, it is better to choose white or one of the pastel shades: peach, pink, yellow, gray, and nut. For the role of the second color choose his neighbor in the spectral range. The third shade will be bright, which is permissible, because it is used a little (only in accents). If the kitchen windows overlook the sunny side, then you can dilute the natural “warmth” of the interior with blue, lilac, green, and turquoise.

Design style

The stylistic decision plays an important role in the design of any room. First, they choose the direction for interior design and only after that they are engaged in the choice of colors, furniture, and decorative details. Restrictions on the style of dining in general there. However, it is often "tied" by the interior to the closest "in spirit" zone - the kitchen. It looks spectacular if the rooms are located next to each other. Among the popular trends are minimalism, hi-tech, loft, chalet, Art Deco, classic, fusion, ethnic, Scandinavian, Japanese, Oriental style and French Provence. We will talk about several design options in more detail.

Classical

In the classical style, the interior composition looks royally magnificent and elegant. This direction does not accept cheapness, imitation or practicality. Classic always strives for luxury, which is deliberately put on display. The walls are covered with wallpaper, richly decorated with floral ornaments. In color scale prevails white, brown and its shades. In large rooms, a massive, elongated table with rounded corners of precious wood is installed. The set includes elegant chairs on twisted, curved legs. They are covered with soft velvet or other expensive textiles. In the colors they choose deep noble tones or neat drawings on a gold, chocolate, bronze background. Wall decoration is limited to hanging portraits in framing frames or landscape paintings. The ceiling is richly decorated with stucco, and in its center establish a multi-tiered, heavy chandelier of crystal. The doorway is decorated with full columns or pilasters.

Gothic

The traditional Gothic dining area is reminiscent of a strict palace dining room. The one where the piglets were fed, roasted on a spit, drank wine from cups encrusted with precious stones, and ate to the troubadours' songs. In spacious rooms, the ceiling is arched and decorated with beams. The walls are decorated with photo wallpapers with engravings, which depict heroic scenes from the life of knights. In more simple interiors, they can be draped with a fabric with a luxurious floral pattern. The table should be big, made of solid oak. Chairs are used without upholstery, with carved backs. If the table has the shape of a rectangle, then above it are placed several chandeliers in a row. By the way, the bulbs on them are arranged in such a way as to create a resemblance to the candlesticks, which in the Middle Ages lit the meal in the dining room.

Gothic prefers dark, dark tones, so the style is not recommended for use in cramped spaces, as the palette will play a cruel joke with the perception of space.

Provence

Dining area in the style of Provence has a special comfort and softness. White and pastel shades prevail in colors. The windows are covered with colorful curtains. Beautiful landscapes or a whole photo gallery from family photos are placed on the walls. The table is better to choose round, because Provence prefers soft lines. It can be artificially aged by painting one layer of white over the previous tone. Before dinner, the table must be covered with a festive tablecloth. On the windowsill put a pair of elegant vases with fresh flowers. Walls paste over with a wall-paper with a gentle, vegetative ornament. On the chairs upholstered pink, turquoise, yellow, mint or olive color in small florets. If there is a bedside table or wardrobe next to them, then they are necessarily decorated with decorative plates on stands, miniature sculptures, small bowls, and caskets.

Moroccan

Moroccan style belongs to the group of eastern destinations. In domestic interiors, it looks very exotic. In the center of the dining area have a small wooden table. Remember that Oriental people eat dishes a little, and most of the time they spend on philosophical conversations. Next to it, in parallel, are installing two sofas with colorful upholstery, which are casually sprinkled on top with decorative pads with flirty tassels at the ends. The windows are decorated with multi-colored mosaic. Decorated plates and panels are hung on the walls. The floors are covered with colorful hand-made rugs. If the dining area needs to be separated from the kitchen or hall, then use decorative partitions that can be decorated with thematic patterns with curls. An original design solution will be the placement of groups of Moroccan lamps on the ceiling, which will emphasize the oriental flavor in the interior.

Conclusion

When making a dining area you need to rely on only one rule: it should be comfortable, pleasant and easy to eat in it. There should be no pressure on the appetite, depressive mood or lack of space at the table. If this happens, then the dining room was furnished incorrectly. Remember that the dining area or a separate room should be set up in a calm way and stimulate the appetite, unobtrusively induce conversation and bring guests and household together.
